Lisa Diaz Nash Announces Candidacy for San Mateo City Council for Safe, Vibrant Neighborhoods

San Mateo, CA – On Thursday, Director of the San Mateo Neighborhood Watch Board and San Mateo Library Board Trustee Lisa Diaz Nash formally announced her candidacy for San Mateo City Council District 1.

“I am honored to answer the call to represent our neighborhoods on the City Council,” said Diaz Nash. “For over 30 years, I have called San Mateo County home. It is time to give back and ensure the leadership that maintains our amazing quality of life for future generations.”

The 2022 redistricting process created five districts within the City of San Mateo with District 1 representing the northwest part of the City including San Mateo Park, El Cerrito Mounds, Baywood, Parrot Park, Aragon, Hayward Park and parts of Hacienda and San Mateo Heights neighborhoods. Current Council Member Eric Rodriguez has decided not to run for re-election and has endorsed Diaz Nash for the seat.

Said outgoing Council Member Rodriguez, “Whether it’s our libraries, parks, open space, small businesses or unique neighborhoods, Lisa will protect our community character and amazing quality of life. There is no one I trust more to succeed me in District 1.”

“As a HIP Housing Board Member, I’m passionate about taking the lead in expanding housing that keeps our workforce local and protects our unique community character,” continued Diaz Nash. “Maintaining our streets and 911 emergency response are top priorities for our City. I will continue to champion the important issues for our future like drought and advocating for women’s healthcare rights locally and regionally.”

“Lisa has fought to provide access to clean, safe drinking water for people across the globe. She’ll bring that type of leadership to fighting drought and climate change here in our County for future generations,” said State Senator Josh Becker.

Diaz Nash also is endorsed by Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, Assembly Member Kevin Mullin, former State Senator Jerry Hill, San Mateo Deputy Mayor Diane Papan, San Mateo City Council Member Joe Goethals, former San Mateo Mayors Claire Mack and Maureen Freschet, former San Mateo Chief of Police Susan Manheimer and several other local community leaders.
