January Council Meetings
The next Council meeting will be January 13th, instead of January 6th, to enable staff to prepare a solid agenda after the winter holidays. There will be a Study Session on January 13th of the progress made during 2024 to increase the vibrancy of Downtown San Mateo and City plans to future enhance it from an economic, cultural and community perspective. The results of a comprehensive community survey on Downtown San Mateo will be presented, along with plans that align with community priorities. Your input is welcome. Stop by Downtown San Mateo often during the holiday season and beyond…much good to shop, dine and explore!
The January 21st Council meeting promises to be full of important topics.
Earlier this year, City Council directed staff to develop a proposal for a Citywide historic resources program. Staff will bring this proposal back on the 21st. The objective is to get an understanding of how San Mateans all over our city want to manage our historic resources.
A Citywide program also will create regulations and guidelines on how to manage our historic resources. This has been a topic of much discussion, but it needs to be a topic that all San Mateans can weigh in on. Please share your opinions and ideas!
Another priority community issue has been traffic safety in North Central and the balance between improving bicycle/pedestrian safety and removing residential parking. A standing room only community meeting on the issue was recently held at the Martin Luther King Community Center. The takeaways from that meeting and staff recommended next steps also will be shared with Council on the 21st.
